Episode 7
You are now here at episode 7. This time I pull apart the bull crap pumped out by the Violence Policy Center dealing with rifles in .50. Nothing too unusual as it’s mostly just anti-gun rhetoric and fear mongering. I hope you enjoy it.

Episode 6
Here we are at episode 6. Getting closer to double digit numbers every day. In this episode we get our article from the ever hysterical Brady Campaign. Mr. Pennington wrote an article in response to the Fort Hood killings which made little sense. This episode calls him out on it and goes through his article piece by piece pointing out the lies. I hope you enjoy it.
I also mentioned the Electronic Frontier Foundation push against Volomedia’s overly broad patent that could adversely affect podcasting. More information on that can be found here.

Episode 5
That’s right everybody we’ve made it through five episodes now. That’s more than twice the number of listeners! Anyways this episode is the first in a new series of Truth About Guns episodes. I’ll just call them rumor control for now but am open to better titles.
The premise of these episodes is to find the truth behind several gun rumors floating around on this series of tubes we call the Interwebitubes. You can thank Gail Pepin of the excellent ProArms podcast for coming up with this idea.
Instead of just presenting show notes and citations I will be preparing detailed individual pages for each rumor covered along with all the evidence found. This we you can easily link people to pages related to rumors your friends are talking about.
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get those pages online before the episode release (I like keeping with the whole posting episodes on Sunday at 10:00). But being I’m doing some traveling this week I will work on those pages on my downtime so they should be coming online one by one. Until then I’ll leave links to sources of the covered rumors. Sorry for the mess but I wanted to get the episode out as I won’t have any time next week to record one.

This is part two of our two part series covering California AB 962. In this episode we cover the second chapter of this bill and let you know what all the legalese means.
In the episode I make a mention of the Gun Nation podcast. There is a link to the episode I talked about in the show notes but there is no local copy on this page. Just a heads up.

And we have episode 3, California AB 962 part 1. In this episode we cover the first chapter of the newly signed into law AB 962. Most of you know what the law is but maybe haven’t read through it to understand it. I don’t blame anybody for that fact because California gun laws suck. Well if you want the detailed nitty gritty on the law take a listen to this episode.

Welcome to Episode 2 titled From My Cold Dead Thumb. In this episode we cover an article pertaining to California’s AB 962 bill. The article calls for ammunition restriction and I explain why the arguments made are at best irrelevant but usually simply misguided.

Lesson Learned
For those of you who have listened to the first episode let me start of by saying you’re awesome (seriously). But I’m sure you noticed a slightly echoey sound. That was due to the fact I used the built in microphone on my MacBook Pro to record the podcast.
The reason I did that was simply due to the fact I wanted to record an episode and get it out the door as a trail run to ensure I actually wanted to do this. Nothing sucks more than a podcast that lasts a single episode and stops out of the blue. Since I decided to keep doing this podcasting thing I decided to invest in better audio equipment. I’m going to be totally honest, I don’t know crap about audio recording and mixing. I know enough to click the record button in GarageBand, record the podcast, and made some simple edits (mostly cutting out dead space in the podcast).
And I blame my lack of knowledge for what I did next. I decided to pick up one of those headsets with a built in microphone. Needless to say the audio quality sucked. I wasn’t ready for how much it was going to suck though. See I didn’t expect a constant static buzzing sound coming across the line during the recording. By during down the pickup volume in the System Preference panel I was able to get the buzzing sound down quite a bit but it was still there. Finally I’ve come to the conclusion the headset isn’t going to work and have decided to forget it.
I did promise better audio quality for the next episode on the Gun Rights Radio Network forum though and by God I do everything in my power to deliver on my promises. I looked around and asked some people who actually know something about recording sound what a good microphone would be that wouldn’t break the bank and would be simple to use for a neanderthal such as myself.
I was pointed towards the Blue Snowball microphone. It’s a USB microphone that apparently has good sound quality and doesn’t require a lot of working to get that sound quality. I bought it via Amazon and did a two day shipping option in the hopes of getting it soon enough to record the podcast and get it out by Sunday.
I just want to drop a note that Amazon has these bad boys going for about $65.00 whereas everybody else is selling them for $99.00. That’s one Hell of a discount.
Using Episode Tags
OK a new “feature” has been added. In actuality I’m using a built in feature of WordPress to accomplish something I hope will be useful. Each episode post will now contain tags. These tags each list arguments made in the dissected article.
For instance if the article makes the claim the second amendment meant only the militia should have guns the tag “The Militia Argument” will be added to the post. This should make it easier if you are looking for information regarding specific anti-gun arguments.
Let’s say you want to find a counter argument to the anti-gunner claim that says we don’t need guns because the police will protect us. Any episode with the tag “The Government will Protect You” will counter claims to that argument.
Hopefully that helps people find what they need when this podcast gets more episode.
Release Schedule
OK I just thought I’d post a note about the release schedule for this podcast. Truth About Guns is going to be a bi-weekly podcast. This is due to the fact it takes quite a bit of work pulling all the research material together and combing through it. In actuality I’m finding recording and editing doesn’t take nearly as much time as writing the script and gathering the research information.
I’ll probably release episodes every other Sunday evening. The next episode should be posted on October 10 if I’m looking at this calendar right.
Episode 1
Welcome to the premier episode of the Truth About Guns podcast. For my pilot episode I bring you an anti-gun piece written by Lois Romano titled Gun Controls Haven’t Gone Nearly Far Enough. It’s a rather horrendous piece the was pretty easy to tear apart.
